Ask any photographer and they’ll tell you it’s not the gear that makes the photographer, it’s the person behind the gear.
While I 100% agree with that, we’d be silly to say gear doesn’t matter.
So what’s in my bag? I’m glad you asked:
Camera Bodies
(2) Canon 5D Mark III – I shoot on two camera bodies during our clients’ weddings and on one body during portrait sessions (the other camera then acts as a backup…you know…just in case.)
Lenses
Prime lenses – Canon 35mm 1.4 L II USM, Canon 50mm 1.4 USM, Canon 85mm 1.8 USM, Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro USM
Zoom lenses – Canon 24-70mm 2.8 L USM, Canon 70-200mm 2.8 L IS USM
(4) KISS brand travel styling mats – 3 linen mats, 1 suede mat
(2) Bridal hangers
Assorted ribbons in neutral colors
And on a wedding day, you’ll see me toting most of my gear in these four bags.
Roller Suitcase: When I first started shooting weddings, I knew I wanted a case that could carry all of my gear. I wanted a Pelican case but at several hundred dollars a pop, I wasn’t able to afford it. So, naturally, I went the DIY approach and took an old carry-on suitcase, added foam inserts, and turned it into a rolling camera case.
Vera Bradley bag: My entire styling kit fits into a Vera Bradley Grand Weekender Travel Bag (except for the KISS travel styling mats which are in their own tube travel case).
Backpack: On wedding days, I bring my laptop and external hard drive in my Vinta Type-II Backpack so I can start importing and organizing the couple’s wedding photos during their reception. At photography sessions, I’ll pack my backpack with a single camera body and two camera lenses.
