Let’s get a little personal for a moment, shall we? Take a quick peek into my house and see how Matt and I incorporate our own photos into our daily lives throughout our home.

We’ll start on the main level.

The Living Room

Even though we have a house, we don’t have too much open wall space on the main floor so we’ve had to be strategic with where we put our heirloom art.

Our living room has one ENORMOUS wall opposite our tv and it’s the perfect place to display the first piece of heirloom art I ever received.

While it isn’t a portrait, these kinds of heirlooms are just as important to display. This particular piece was painted by my Great-Grandma Dorr who was instrumental in the inception of the Ann Arbor Art Festival. #humblebrag

I’m not 100% sure when she painted this piece but I remember seeing it in my Grammie’s house when I was a kid and told me mom, “I want that someday!” I was probably about 10 years old. What I love about this art, aside from the geometric shapes and personal interpretations that are common with avant garde art, is that whenever I look at it I remember both my Great-Grandma and think about how she influenced her community. She died when I was a tot but seeing this piece, day in and day out, reminds me that I come from a long line of pretty amazing women!

Also in our living room is our coffee table. And yes it’s a gorgeous table but what makes me really love this spot in our house is this is where all of our heirloom photo albums live.

Each of these albums represent a trip Matt and I took together (as well as one epic trip I took with my family). It’s so important to me that I get our photographs off our camera and print them.

Clearly, I don’t believe photographs from our biggest adventures should only live in the cloud but rather they should be displayed in our home so we can share our stories and love with friends and family.

The Dinning Room

Matt and I love traveling and we try to bring something home with us to remind us of our adventures.

These screen prints we picked up from Rusty and Ingrid on a few different trips to Massachusetts. Cape Ann (about an hour or so north of Boston) has become a favorite vacation spot of ours and these screen prints are near and dear to our hearts. One even shows the spot where Matt proposed to me.

Now we journey up the stairs to the second level of our home.

The Hallway

The hallway gallery wall is dedicated to our puppy Aife.

We got Aife in July 2019 and did a quick portrait session with her within two weeks of bringing her home. It’s hard to believe she was this little not too long ago. It’s so important to get family photos taken especially when you’re just starting to establish one. Pets and kids grow and change so quickly, that you can almost forget when they were like when they were little.

Our plan is to update and add to these prints as Aife gets older. But we’ll always keep at least one photo up from when she was a baby puppy.

The Bedroom

Here is where most of our prints live as it’s the one room of the house with the most open wall space.

Above the bed we have a few of our favorite images from a just for fun couple’s session in Ireland in 2018. Once we get married later this summer, we’ll likely update the frames with wedding photos and move these prints elsewhere in the house.

Along the west side wall, we have two canvases from our international trips: one from the Cliffs of Moher and one from Iceland.

You’ll also notice throughout our bedroom that we have many small frames with prints in them. They’re all from various milestone moments in our lives such as the first ever photo we took together, photos from our friends’ wedding, etc.
