Gemma and Modi’s Minneapolis River Flats engagement session was a session I’ll always remember! It’s not just because Gemma and I are dance pals. But rather, because it was full of so many laughs, a bit of adventure, and a wee bit of playful teasing.
While Gemma and Modi’s wedding isn’t for another year and a half, we decided this spring was the perfect time to take their engagement photos. Both Gemma and Modi are avid birders and they wanted to take their photos somewhere special. They played with the idea of going somewhere they’ve watched the birds together.
For that reason, and because it’s close to their apartment, they chose to take their engagement photos at the Minneapolis River Flats. And let me tell you…the setting was perfect!
We started above the River Flats in the neighborhood. We found some beautiful blooming trees that screamed “photograph me” and did a little twirl-off before we ventured down to the river.
Now, I’ve known Gemma for several years through the Twin Cities dance community. We’ve even performed together a few years ago. What I didn’t know was that she’s afraid of heights. And of course, she didn’t tell me this until after she started climbing the tree I asked her and Modi to climb for a photo. *Please note: you can always – always – say no to my photo suggestions, especially if they require you to face a fear.*
In all honesty though, Gemma was a trooper and we all had many laughs throughout their Minneapolis River Flats engagement photo session.
I can’t wait to celebrate with them next October at The Women’s Club of Minneapolis!
