What’s better than being witness to the exact moment two people agree to tie the knot? I mean, aside from bearing witness to when they actually become married? Nothing. That’s what. That’s why I love being a Boston proposal photographer!
Earlier this fall, I had the honor of photographing A & A’s proposal at the iconic Boston Public Library for my dear friend Stephanie Berenson Photography. The Boston Public Library is on my bucket list of venues I’d like to photograph a wedding at so when Stephanie asked me to associate photograph a proposal for her, I jumped at the opportunity.
Prior to the big ask, we got on the phone and talked about logistics. When photographing a once-in-a-lifetime moment like a proposal, you have to make sure you’ve covered all of your bases – you only get one chance to get it right so talking about what his vision, desires, and must-haves were was essential. Then, we set our plan in motion.
When you think of the Boston Public Library, you can’t help but think of stunning architecture. The most iconic location in the library, with the most stunning architecture, is the courtyard. So naturally, that’s where we decided the actual proposal should happen.
Along with my husband, I arrived at the library early to stake out my spot in the courtyard. It’s always buzzing with tourists so claiming a table with a good view of the entire courtyard was imperative. From there, we waiting for the magic to begin.
A & A are so sweet and you could see the tears well up in their eyes as soon as the proposal began. I couldn’t hear what was being said (which is how I think it should be…those words are for the couple’s ears, not mine) but it clearly was heartfelt. He got down on one knee, popped the question, and the rest was history!
We took a few quick candid-ish engagement photos at the Boston Public Library (they don’t allow posed photography during business hours so keep that in mind if you want to take your engagement photos there) and then went out into Copley Square for more engagement session fun.
Trinity Church and John Hancock Tower – both conveniently situated in Copley Square – are two significant spots to A & A (another reason I always make a game plan and talk things out with the person proposing beforehand). Knowing that those spots held special significance to the couple, I made sure to take engagement photos with those beautiful buildings in the background.
Photographing proposals in Boston is a dream come true. It’s a gift to be invited and share that moment with a couple. And when you get to be with a couple from the moment they become engaged to the moment they marry, that truly is the biggest gift a wedding photographer could be given!
A & A, thank you for sharing your love, joy, and excitement with me! I wish you every happiness and every blessing as you plan the next exciting chapter of your lives!!
