Ya’ll know I’m a sucker for love stories. So when Jonathan asked me to capture his Boston Public Garden proposal to Emily last spring, I said “I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”
Initially, Jonathan thought about popping the question on Acorn Street in Beacon Hill. They both live in Toronto so he thought going to the popular and beautiful spot on their trip wouldn’t raise suspicions. However, if you’ve ever been to Acorn Street you’ll know just how crowded it can be on a weekend afternoon. So, after looking at a few other options, we agreed that it would be extra enchanting for Jonathan to propose at the Boston Public Garden.
Jonathan knew that his proposal had to be extraordinary, a testament to the depth of his love for Emily. In the days leading up to the event, he meticulously planned every detail, ensuring that the moment would be one of pure magic. He reached out to Emily’s sister Olivia, who lives in Boston, and involved her in the preparations and enlisted her support to make the day even more special.
Olivia and I got to the Boston Public Garden early in order to be in position for when Jonathan and Emily arrived. And I’m super glad that we got there when we did because we were able to secure a bench under a blossoming tree right by the pond. We had visions of Jonathan and Emily cozying up together on the bench and then Jonathan would drop down to one knee. Of course, when planning a surprise proposal, you can’t 100% predict what the person being proposed to is going to do so when Emily saw our sweater on the bench (our sneaky way of saving the bench for them) she didn’t want to sit there because she thought it was being saved for someone. Best laid plans, eh? 😉
When Jonathan and Emily arrived I could tell that Jonathan’s heart was pounding. Jonathan took a deep breath, clearly overwhelmed by the love he felt for Emily, and dropped to one knee to present Emily with a stunning custom designed engagement ring by Select Diamond Imports. Emily’s face, I think you’ll agree, says it all!
After the shock of the proposal, it was time to take some cute engagement photos. I wanted to honor Jonathan’s original idea of proposing on Acorn Street by going there for a few engagement photos. During our walk through the Beacon Hill neighborhood, Emily repeated how surprised and happy she was – her joy was intoxicating and her smile beamed throughout their entire engagement session!
I truly can’t get enough of photographing others’ love for each other and I’m so honored to have been able to witness and photograph this monumental moment for Jonathan and Emily! Their love is so special and I hope to have the privilege of photographing their wedding, too.
