Rachel and Phil’s summertime Newport Rhode Island engagement session felt like stepping into a period piece written a century ago but with a modern twist. These two wanted their session to reflect who they are both as individuals and as a couple: timeless yet playful, sophisticated yet down-to-earth. With a deep appreciation for Newport’s history and coastal beauty, we created an experience that felt just as meaningful as it was beautiful.

Like everything they do, Rachel and Phil’s vision for their Newport engagement session was thoughtful and intentional. Rachel dreamed of soft romantic imagery that nodded to the Gilded Age (um, yes please!) while Phil wanted to incorporate his love of sailing into the experience. I was, of course, happy to provide resources to make this vision a reality!
We started their session on a quiet stretch of the Cliff Walk, letting the rocky coastline and dramatic Atlantic views set the tone. The power of the ocean is awe-inspiring for me and I let it inform my posing directions. From there, we made our way to Ochre Court, one of Newport’s most iconic Gilded Age mansions at part of Salve Regina University. Its stately architecture and manicured grounds made for a breathtaking backdrop. Rachel wore a delicate white Hill House Home dress styled with dainty pearl accessories, which gave the portraits a dreamy, classic feel. It was romantic and nostalgic in the best possible way!!

After a quick outfit change, we made our way to the docks in downtown Newport for the second half of their engagement session. Phil is an experienced sailor, and being out on the water is one of his favorite places to be. Ending the evening with a private sunset sail through Newport Harbor was the perfect way to end their session!
Their pup, Daisy, joined us for the ride, too, and instantly became the star of the boat. Speaking of stars, did you see the TikTok video of Phil proposing to Daisy? It went viral and even got a nod on Today!

What stood out most to me during this session was just how grounded Rachel and Phil are in each other. They balance each other so beautifully which excites me for their Newport wedding at OceanCliff Hotel.

Newport is already a place steeped in romance and history, but Rachel and Phil made it feel entirely their own. Their Newport Rhode Island engagement session was equal parts elegant and personal – a perfect reflection of their relationship.
