I’m so excited to share Gina and Michael’s heartwarming International Tennis Hall of Fame wedding! Their day, set against the backdrop of historic Newport, RI, was an unforgettable one. Despite the rainy forecast, their love shone brightly, illuminating every moment with warmth, joy, and a dash of romance.
I began the day with Gina, her bridesmaids, and her mother at Pelham Court Hotel. Pelham Court Hotel is a charming hotel just off the main drag in Newport, RI. Not only did their suite have rooms that were painted in their wedding colors, perfect for getting ready photos, but it also connected to an adorable courtyard. Even though it was raining, we knew that we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to take a few portraits there.
One bittersweet element of the day, was the absence of Gina and Michael’s beloved dog, Coco, who had recently crossed the rainbow bridge. To honor Coco’s memory, Gina wore a locket that held a cherished photo of her fur babe, which lay just above her heart. I just about melted at her touching tribute!
After Gina finished dressing, we packed up and headed out to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Why does that church sound familiar you might be asking? Oh, it’s just the very same church where John F. Kennedy got married. No big deal (lies, it was a very big deal and my associate photographer Ashlee and I gushed over that fact)! I’m not a stranger to Catholic ceremonies, having grown up in the Catholic Church and also having photographed many Catholic weddings over my career. But this church, steeped in its rich history, was something truly special.
Michael and his groomsmen were at the church when Ashlee and I arrived, and were bustling about making final preparations for the ceremony. I sensed slight nerves from Michael but more than that, I sensed his excitement! And before too long, it was time for the ceremony to begin!
As luck would have it, a tropical storm decided to make an appearance, showering Newport (and all of New England) with rain throughout the day. But did Gina and Michael let a little rain dampen their spirits? Not a chance! Armed with clear umbrellas, and a great attitude, they and their wedding party embraced the weather.
We took their wedding party and couple portraits at their reception venue, the iconic International Tennis Hall of Fame. While there weren’t too many covered areas at the venue, we managed to find a few and we worked our magic! Having the ability to quickly problem solve, pivot, and find usable locations when bad weather strikes is one of the most important skills a wedding photographer can have. As a seasoned wedding photographer, I’m thankful that I have this skill! I’m able to give my clients a great experience regardless of the weather.
As the afternoon morphed into the evening, Gina and Michael’s guests began to arrive for their cocktail hour and reception. Guests enjoyed libations and a raw bar, staples of all New England weddings, before sitting down to eat.
Michael, a lover of jazz, made sure to curate the perfect musical experience for their guests. Enter Jonokuchi & The Revisionists. They set the tone for an evening filled with laughter, dancing, and unforgettable memories.
Gina and Michael’s wedding day was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and embracing life’s unexpected twists and turns. Despite the rain, their day was filled with an abundance of warmth and love that will be cherished for a lifetime. So here’s to Gina, Michael, and the beautiful journey ahead as they continue to navigate life’s adventures together!
